The ACLU first came to us with the idea of making a film using previously recorded material from David and Charlie. But when we reviewed the footage, it was Charlie's mom who stood out. Her interview was so honest and moving, we pitched a new direction: tell the story through her eyes. Most parents know what it means to fight for their kid, so we knew her voice would resonate with the audiences the ACLU wanted to reach.
